This weekend’s must-try apps, streaming, and other adventures.
After a syncing scare, I’ve bit the bullet and backed up all my iPhone photos over to Google Photos. I’ve been a major Flickr user up until now, but don’t let a digital scare keep you from backing up your images into a second spot!
While I wait for all of Big Little Lies to be ready for a full binge-watch (I’ve read the book, so I know the ending, and watching the story in pieces is making me antsy) I’m completely hooked on Riverdale. It brings to life the Archie comics characters in a darker world, combining the glamour of Gossip Girl with the mystery of Veronica Mars. There’s something to love about every character, from Veronica’s loving ice queen role to Judhead’s mysterious narration—except for Archie, who’s pulling an Aria in Pretty Little Liars with a plot that is completely irrelevant to the main story. The first five episodes are all available for free on the CW app.
After reading this article, I’m on a mission to read more. This week I inhaled Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty. It’s her latest book about something gone amiss at a barbecue and the ramifications it has on the families there, and it’s not until more than halfway through the book you finally find out everything that happened there. After so much buildup, though, the twist wasn’t a huge surprise, but the characters and storytelling kept me captured until the very end.
This weekend is all about hunting down the brand-new Nintendo Switch, officially released today. We procrastinated too long to preorder it, so we’re on the hunt to track down somewhere that isn’t sold out. The reviews have been insanely positive, and I’m dying to not only run around in the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but try out the next generation of Wii Sports, 1-2 Switch. And once Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is out, you can bet everyone’s invited over to play.
Tonight is Off The Grid‘s 2017 season kick-off! Off The Grid is easily one of my favorite parts of the Bay Area, with weekly events all over the city and bay. This Friday, of course, kicks off the weekly Fort Mason Center events, a place that I find myself every summer. And in two more weekends, on March 19, the Sunday Presidio Picnic kicks off too, because why brunch anywhere besides food trucks?
Thank goodness you can save posts in Instagram now—I can stop screen shooting spots I want to visit and hoping I find them somewhere in my camera roll. Thanks to @breakfastinsf, I’ve discovered Uji Time, and I can’t wait to try their black sesame ice cream! (Also, that cone. Love.)
