You know, just earlier today I was joking about how Ikea is an adult wonderland, along with Costco and Central Market in Texas. And, of course, Ikea heard me and confirmed it with their latest amazing announcement: phone charging furniture.
They’re literally solving every problem I’ve ever had. I’ve actually sat on my couch using my portable charger because the wall sockets were too far away. Now I can charge my phone right at my couch, #hallelujah.
It’ll actually be similar to the charging pads you’re seeing in the latest Starbucks: rather than a cord sticking out of the couch cushions, the collection will feature tables, desks and lamps that have wireless charging pads on them. Hello, future.
The charging pads will use Qi-certified wireless chargers from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). There’s three major standards in the world: the previous, the Power Matters Alliance (PMA, which rolled out the Starbucks charging tables), and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP).
Unfortunately, several phones like the iPhone aren’t equipped with Qi-certified technology, but have no fear — there are special phone cases that allow Apple users to charge their phones with Qi charging stations.
Of course, each piece of furniture will need to be plugged into a wall socket to make it work, and the collection should be hitting shelves in select North America and European stores starting April 15, with a global release following it, according to the Wall Street Journal.
I can tell you one thing: I definitely want one of these next to my bed. Specifically, the below bedside table. So many problems solved.
